2nd quarter science goals

5.P.1 Understand force, motion and the relationship between them.
5.P.2 Understand the interactions of matter and energy and the changes that occur.

Students will understand that:
  • gravity, friction, and changes in mass affect the motion of objects.
  • it is possible to measure the motion of an object based on the distance it traveled in a certain amount of time.
  • a graph can be constructed to demonstrate the relationship of time and distance traveled.
  • a greater force produces a greater change in motion; this same force would produce a lesser effect on an object with greater mass.
  • the weight of an object is equal to the sum of its parts.
  • summarizing properties of original materials and the new material(s) formed provide evidence that a change - physical or chemical - may have occurred.
How do forces and motion impact technological design?

Vocabulary: gravity, friction, mass, force, distance, time
