3rd quarter Science Goals

Human Body Systems

State Standard(s)
5.L.1Understand how structures and systems of organisms (to include the human body) perform functions necessary for life.
5.L.3Understand why organims differ from or are similar to their parents based on the characteristics of the organism.
Essential Understanding(s)Essential Question(s)
Students will understand that:
  • some traits are passed on from parents to offspring (inherited) while other traits are learned.
  • each body system performs a special life function.
  • multicellular organisms, including humans, have developed transport systems because cells within the organism are too far away from the environment for a direct exchange of substances.
How are organisms similar to and different from their parents?
What are the functions of the major body systems to sustain life?
