Welcome back!
Math:
Monday we learned to divide a whole number by a decimal using base 10 grids and today we used number lines. Even though it is not part of the 5th grade curriculum, I've been showing the standard algorithm too.
Today we did a quick check to see how they were doing. Most did great. I have about 6 who made a "2", but we will review on Wednesday and re-assess those kids.
Tomorrow we will start decimals divided by decimals.
ELA:
Our reading menu for these two weeks is based on the revolutionary war. I am using our Social Studies texts for analysis during reading. We are also working on our introductory paragraphs of our Persuasive essays. I hope to have the whole essay done by Monday.
Social Studies:
We are in the Revolutionary War. We have watched "Liberty's Kids" episodes one and two. We have talked about the different acts leading up to the Boston Tea party and the British response of the "intolerable" acts.
We will continue to use Liberty's Kids, but not all 39 episodes.
Coding:
Today we had a special event called coding. The kids got to "build" code for a game. hourofcode.com
